Inky's pinwheel quilt
Inky had fallen in love with an old pinwheel quilt that she used when she stayed over at my place, and that gave me the idea for a surprise 50th birthday gift for her. This pinwheel quilt did not turn out to be as long or wide as I had initially planned it to be, but it will make a nice throw. She was thrilled with it, and has found it a place over her sofa in the TV room. Hopefully, it will get used a lot.
Thanks to Srila, I have been introduced to a good wholesale-bedsheet dealer who also has a tailoring unit. His staff did the actual quilting with a thin polyfill layer and a white sheet as backing - saved me a lot of trouble and also ensured that the quilting was perfect, without any bunching up of bits.
Each full block measures around 13" per side, so the width is only around 5 ft and the length is a little over 6.5 ft. The pinwheels were made by the simple method of putting 2 squares together with right-sides facing, drawing a diagonal line, stitching on both sides of the line and then cutting at the line. Lovely easy method to make neat and precise pinwheel squares.
