Supriya's quilt - Kites
Supriya had mentioned a while ago that she would love a quilt with kites. Usha helped me draw up the kite templates, and I really think this was the best-kept secret with almost everyone knowing about it, and Supriya being genuinely surprised on her birthday. Made the entire process so much more fun really.
Supriya assures me that the quilt is really warm and nice to cuddle into :)
This kite helped me to do some more paper piecing, with freezer paper that I removed after the appliquéing onto the base white sheet, and the long strings are hand-embroidered (couched). While a trifle childish, it turned out very attractive. With an old sheet as batting, and a really bright backing, the quilting (on the machine, no less!) turned out really neat. I quilted on and around each kite, and it was a nice way to reinforce the hand-stitched appliqué that I had done.
This quilt has a really bright cover so it could be pillow too.
