Crochet Sweater for Supriya

The beige colour crocheted sweater for Supriya was planned to be as baggy as the beautiful beige one my mother had knit for me in 2017. The only problem is that the yarn was knitting cotton (Art # 4057) and took ages to make. The plan was to finish it and send it off to Supriya for her birthday in May, before we left Calcutta for Bangalore, and I think I just about made the deadline.

With no shaping except for the neck, I made slow and steady progress. Supriya had wanted a cowl neck, and I am not sure I got it right, but it still looks good.  Hopefully the measurements I am writing below are going to help if I ever want to make another similar one.

I started with 136 chains as base, and the final width is 22". With each 50gm ball of yarn, the height went up by 4.1".

Pattern:  n base chains in mutliples of 2 + 4
Insert hook in 4th chain from hook. *YO, YO into chain 3 times till you have 4 loops on your hook. YO and Pull yarn through all 4 loops, and lock with ch 1. Skip next chain, insert hook in next chain* Repeat till the end. 3ch. Turn.

Work on Back for 26" then reduce for neck - keep 26 clusters (8") for neck and 18 clusters (7") for each shoulder.

Work on Front for 20.5", then reduce for neck. 26 clusters in the centre, 14 in both sides of neck on alternate rows,  To complete collar, sc in #3 hook for a few circles, then change to #3.5, increase 6 spread over the front of the collar.

Sleeve started with 56 chains.
